I study superstitions throughout history, and for centuries astrology, numerology and dates have been used because of beliefs, an example would be the Chinese with numerology, the 2008 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony opened in Beijing at 08:00pm on 8/8/08, just because the Chinese find the number 8 auspicious, they believe the number is associated with prosperity and confidence.   It must be noted that Eastern numerology can be different to western idea's about numerology, link below:-
